Day 28 in Napa

Day 28 in Napa Valley was filled with laughter, and of course, incredible wines. Our group started off the day with a mission to get ready for a day of tastings and exploration. After indulging in a delicious dinner and awesome wines from the previous night, we knew we needed a little extra time to freshen up, especially our pearly whites! With a cup of coffee and bagels in hand, we gathered around the outdoor fire, enjoying the cool and clear weather. Some of us even started the day with a refreshing screwdriver or a glass of rose.

Our first stop was the renowned Duckhorn Vineyards, nestled off of Lodi Lane and Silverado Trail. Just a short 20-minute drive from our villa, we arrived promptly and were warmly greeted by Trade Host Kay, who surprised us with a bottle of the exquisite Goldeneye Sparkling. As we sipped on this delectable bubbly, Kay shared the rich history of Duckhorn and introduced us via pictures to the talented winemaking team. To immerse ourselves in the winemaking process, Kay took us to the crush pad, where she expertly identified the machinery and explained the steps involved.

Next, we were treated to a tasting of the Duckhorn portfolio while lounging in Kay's inviting chaise. Our journey began with the crisp Decoy Sauvignon Blanc, followed by the elegant Calera Pinot Noir, the velvety Duckhorn Merlot, and finally, the opulent Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon. Each wine was a true delight, and the educational experience enhanced our appreciation for the art of winemaking.  With time ticking away, we left Duckhorn rather abruptly, eager to continue our adventure across the valley.

Our next destination was Cosentino, where we had the pleasure of enjoying an outdoor tasting of their wines. The captivating aromas of Mustards Grill next door sort of detracted from the experience, prompting us to savor the wines swiftly and head to Oakville Grocery for a scrumptious lunch. The sandwiches were simply amazing, and we all enjoyed the satisfying meal.

Surprisingly ahead of schedule, we made our way to ZD Winery, where the hospitality team warmly welcomed us. Eric, our knowledgeable tasting and tour host, led us on an informative journey through the fermentation room, the barrel room, and the bottling line. Along the way, he shared captivating stories about the winery's history and founders. ZD Winery is renowned for its commitment to Zero Defects, and it certainly lived up to our expectations.  Sitting on the veranda, overlooking some of Napa's most exquisite vineyards, we were treated to a sensational lineup of ZD wines. We started with the luscious ZD Chardonnay, followed by the graceful ZD Pinot Noir. The 2012 Library Selection Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, and my personal favorite, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, completed the remarkable tasting experience.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way back to the villa, feeling content and fulfilled after three extraordinary wine tastings. To unwind, we engaged in a friendly basketball game in the pool, played tennis in the vineyard, and finally, enjoyed a home-cooked meal by the cozy fire.  Another remarkable day in the beautiful Napa Valley had come to an end. Memories were made, palates were delighted, and friendships were strengthened.

We look forward to the adventures that awaited us on day 29!
